Hair transplant before-and-after photos are genuinely useful for understanding what the procedure can achieve — as long as you understand the timeline behind them.
Results Take Time — More Than Most People Expect
Unlike many other procedures, a hair transplant doesn't show its real result quickly. Transplanted hairs typically shed within the first few weeks, then re-emerge gradually from around three to four months, with density continuing to improve for up to 9 to 12 months. A photo taken at two months looks nothing like the same result at one year.
Density Depends on Donor Supply
How full a result looks depends heavily on how much donor hair was available to begin with, and how extensive the balding area was. A dramatic result in a patient with abundant donor hair and moderate thinning isn't a fair comparison for someone with more extensive hair loss and limited donor supply.
Check the Angle and Lighting
Overhead lighting and flash photography can make thinning hair look fuller than it is, and vice versa. Consistent lighting, angle, and hair styling between before and after shots make for a far more honest comparison.
